Brittany Voight stood at the cusp of her destiny, the wind blowing at her long black hair, sending a chill through her pale, thin frame.
"This is it," she said, lifting her left leg. "This is the first step..."
"It sure is!" Another voice spoke from above. "Name's Harley, but you can call me Hazard." She moved lower, decending the marble staircase. "You knew here? Me too." She was very attractive, with curly brown hair and a killer pair of shades. She walked with an aire of confidence and angst and her leather lacket conveyed a "don't mess with me" attitude. Brittany tired to hide her jealousy.
"Yeah, I'm new. I mean, I just heard about this place...and I had no where else to go..." She trailed off, pushing her dark hair out of her face. "I'm Blackbird."
"'Nother codename, dude we really are lame." She laughed a little and walked down the stairs until she was level with Blackbird. "I got no where else to go, since the accident...I mean, it's not so much that I was forced to come here, so much as I don't trust myself around everyday people." She pushed her shades up a little on her eyes. "Let's just say I'm dangerous."
Brittany couldn't help it; she smiled. Being around other people...people like her, felt better than she had originally anticipated.
"So, if you don't mind me asking...what's your...you know, superhuman mojo?" Harley flipped some hair behind her shoulder and smiled, leaning her hips against the marble.
Brittany was a little taken aback. "I guess...here watch," Brittany wasn't sure how to explain it, but she could at least show the girl. She raised her hand and across the foyer a black orbed blinked to life, surrounding a vase. Brittany flicked her wrist and the orb carried the vase across the room, towards them. It took all her strength to stop it from crashing into the wall. Instead, it fell with a thud to the carpetted floor.
"Ray-I mean a friend, once told me it was a form of telekinesis. But...like I know what that means," she said, esposing a little more of her self than she would have liked.
"Are you kidding?" Harley marveled. "That's freakin' wicked!" She looked sincerely interested and so Brittany smiled back, her hair still slightly obscuring her face. "I'm not really sure what my power is either," she started, removing a pair of leather gloves, "all I know is that it's pretty dangerous, a hazard really, and that it can melt through anything." She raised her hands and aimed at the open door. "No one's out there right?" She took a quick glance and then nodded her head. "Okay, here goes...fire in the hole!" She yelled and a large fiery burst of plasma-like ooze shot from her fist and streaked through the doorway. Blackbird followed Harley to the door and admired the small hold the plasma charge had made in the front lawn. "If I try hard enough I can turn into that stuff...although I don't really know what it is."
"That's incredible!" Blackbird said, although it came out as a whisper.
"Thanks. But enough power-play, let's head on inside and find whoever runs this place."
"Okay..." Blackbird turned and followed Harley. She shrugged. There were worst destinies out there.
