If mocking me would calm you down, so be it. He thought to himself as he got some research to do after this. Hopefully, it would yield some results, though he himself have doubts about his next steps. "Then tell us, what are the Virtues? From what I can discern from you, they are definitely not a bunch of easy-going guys." He asked the shadow as he turned and looked at Cristina.

(Forgive me if my history's a little off, I've never studdied the Inquistions.)
"Have either of you heard of the Inquisition?" he asked them, trying to think of how he could explain the Virtues. When neither replied right away, he continued. "Think of it this way: It was a religious war against the own congregation. Through the Inquisitions, there came the witch burnings, the Iorn Maiden, the Pear, the White Tower, and numerous other torture devices. It was a time of fear, bloodshead, and religious belief."
He sat down heavily into the grass, which immediatly turned black around him. "That was the madness of humans." He looked up at them both. "Now put that madness into the hands of ageless, powerful beings who's only intent is to 'serve God'." He snorted about the last part.

(Well, we just make histories as we go)
"I think I understand now... By using human's own madness and destructive nature, they can..." He stopped as the wind started to blow, carrying the air around the. "They need only to push the faithful ones to recruit the faithless, or completely destroys them." He understands how far one's madness can go, and the feeling of being a victim.
Suddenly, something lighted up in his mind. He fell on to the ground, his eyes widened with disbelief. "All those talks about the holy wars now... they're... the Virtues doings...?"

"Chances are, yes. But," Malachi placed his chin on his hands, fingers intertwined. His legs were crossed and his elbows rested lightly on his knees. "if you do recall, here I stand before you."
"What do you mean by that?"
"What I mean is that I've been out of tune with the vast ongoings of the entities for eight years. I don't have much of a bloody clue what's going on."

"The holy wars I'm talking about are those against infectees, stating that we are abominations, born of the impure." He stood up, looking at Malachi. "A holy war happened in Asia about 6 years ago and wiped out most of the infectee population there. Even the governments were not allowed to interfere because of some outside influence."
"Is it possible that the 'outside influence' is the Virtues?" He wanted answers. He thought that his family's death was his fault all along... but if that was true...

"Why does it matter?" Malachi threw himself backwards, landing in the soft, black grass. His hair flew out around him, almost indesernable from the blackened blades of grass. His hands rested, arms outstreached, amoung both hair and grass. Instead of a smirk, his face was blank, apathetic, as if he'd given up. "I already told you, six years ago I was out of touch with the Vices."
(Ask him again! Be insistant!)

(Now that you put it that way.)
"It doesn't matter to you but it is important to me!" He yelled at the shadow who was lying on the grassy knoll. He needed to know... He must know. His face became that of impatient as he marched over to Malachi, and standing right beside him. "I know you are hiding things from me. Spill it out, Malachi."

Malachi's apathetic face turned into a scoll. Up from the black grass rose a shadow hand, knocking Brandon away from him. "Don't order me around," he barked sharply.
Silence decended upon the grassy field for a moment, before Malachi decided to tell them. "I suppose it's possible. It does seem like their field of intrest. They tend to use a more direct approach, interacting directly with humans, but still being unnoticible. We take a more ... the Vices take a more indirect method. They infect, disease, and corrupt. That whole "Devil in your mind" theory." Malachi closed his eyes. "I would pin it on the Virtues, yes."

Then it seems they and I have a score to settle then... He whispered in his mind as he gritted his teeth. First Malachi, now the virtues... He felt he wanted to just push everything away. But if that happens... what would happen? No past leads to no future, just as one thing led to another. His vengeance... where would it lead him? "I wonder what would be their next step."

"The Virtues are so tied up in their wars, they'll probably leave us alone unless we provoke them. Our internal affairs are of no intrest to them. But, like I said, the council will probably come knocking on our door at any given minute." Why can't I just be left alone? Andi, why can't we just be left alone? Left in silence forever. Malachi stared up into the overhead sun, his eyes feeling no pain.

"Hopefully." He sighed out. "All of this talk of the Vices, Virtues makes me tired." He whispered quitely as he himslef dropped onto the ground. He felt himself being bashed too many times in one lifetime, he was feeling that just one more... just one more would be sufficient to kill him. Who or what can he cling to now?
"Maybe I should just let things straightened out for a while cause I somehow missed the normal days... Perhaps I should let the pressure slip by first."
"How about you?" He turned to Cristina, then to Malachi.

It felt strange to be the only one standing, and ironic, because she was the least powerful of this trio, so she sat down, watching them both. "I don't know... I don't hardly understand what's going on. I guess my best bet is to stick around one of you two and just ride this out. Play it by ear, kind of."
Almost soft enough to go unheard, Malachi wispered, "I want to die..."

"Cristina... I..." Brandon stopped before he could go any further and let the silence proceed of its own. "I will protect you, Cristina. No matter how battered I am, I will go on." He whispered under his breath. His strengthened resolution renewed his faith. Then suddenly, his head turned towards the shadow. No doubt the strongest one of them all. However soft that was, Brandon heard Malachi's whispers.
"I once thought of that too..." He gave him a malancholy smile. "So many times."

"No..." Malachi's voice was as listless and apathetic as his stance and face. "No, it's not the same... If I died, then this would all just.... end. I would rejoin the council in a new form, with just memories. There would be no feeling. There would be none... Noone would touch Cristia, because she would have no connection to them, no connection to me, if I died. It would be like falling asleep forever, just watching the world go by from your head. God, I remember how that feels... I remember how it felt when I was just a Vice, before I was Malachi. I remember how it felt not to be."
(utho... malachi's become a sloth!!! >XD)

(And maybe you should talk something about Sloth and Pride, talking from memory.)
"Then how about the part of you in me? The part of you in Cristina? You think... those connections are just going to disappear?" He asked him, baffled.
(OMG! SHort post!)
