"For your sake, I hope not," Avignon said, laughing slightly. "He's hell to live with."

Ivy sighed. "What did that one guy do to me?" She couldn'lt get over the feeling that she had been attacked mentally, but she couldn't remeber.

"Pain?" Avignon remembered her own unplesant run in with the man's strange powers. "I'm not quite sure how, but he manages to make you remember horrible things...except it's worse than memory. It's almost like you're reliving it, and reality disapears. And of course, us infectees tend to have alot of bad memories...."

Ivy nodded, the thing that she had seen had been in the back of her mind and she even now had forgotten what it was. "I don't like him."

"Neither do I, daisy..." Avignon said. "But I think we're stuck here, for the moment. So let's just put on our happy faces and cound our blessings!"
Have I ever told you you have the habit of being an optimist at the worst of moments?

Ivy laughed and shook her head. "What blessings? We're freaks who the world hates. Our own kind attacks us." Sighing she shook her head now. "Sorry to be a pesamist but I"m looking at things realisticlly."

"Realisticly, we're still alive. Realisticaly, they want us. They need us for something, daisy! Expecialy you. These people arn't invincible if they need people like us to make their ranks stronger. And at worst? Atleast they don't attack their own ranks. As much as I am loathe to agree with Avris, we're probably safer here than we were in the tunnels, atleast for now," Noticing the look on the girl's face, she quickly explained. "I mean, it's not exactly like the Kitrals were a unified bunch. You heard of all of the fights between the groups... no gangs, gangs, daisy. I'd take military to gangs any day. I think we're going to be ok, daisy. We're just going to have to tuff it out through this rut, and we'll be back on our feet in no time!"
I swear, you're bipolar!
Atleast I'm happy sometimes! You don't EVER feel anything but anger and depression! And don't try to deny it, I know. You're like an emo kid. You can never lighten up. I bet the only reason you don't cut yourself is because we share the same body.
Avignon felt a stinging rush of anger, like a short, strong gust of wind that was carrying thousands of Avris' feathers. He'd withdrawln further into her mind, but not become untouchable. He was still there, and the fact made her all the more angry. Why couldn't he just be there for once?! Instead of always trying to stand on his own crumbling mount, why couldn't he just work with her? Why did he always have to isolate himself?!
FINE! GO CUT YOUR WRISTS! DON'T STOP ON MY ACCOUNT! IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN DIE, I'D JUST HEAL YOU! SO GO AHEAD AND DO IT, YOU EMOTIONAL WRECK!

Crying out Ivy stood up and tore herself from Avignon's grasp. "Why can't you stop it? You always fight eachother over the dumbest things." She walked over to the wall and starting pounding on it. "You have eachother, and yet you don't see that." Her knuckles began to bleed. "Why can't you see that?"

With a rush of white feathers, Avignon surrounded the girl with her wings, stopping her from hurting herself further by placing her body between Ivy and the wall. The warm, healing glow focused on the girl's hands. i "I'm sorry," she said softy, her voice quiet and even. "I know we're not as good as people as we should be." She held on to Ivy's hands as soft down covered the bleeding wounds like snow. "But you shouldn't hurt yourself over our mistakes." I feel like I could cry. I should cry, look what I've done. Look at her hands... "Sometimes, the hardest blessings to see are the ones right on top of us." Why are my eyes so dry?
The room darkened around her. Her hands were shifted suddenly as larger, caloused hands held her own. She knew it was Avris. But why?
"I'm sorry."
The room lightened again as Avignon found herself back outside, greatly confused by Avris' actions.
Avris... She was going to say it wasn't like him, but the short, to the point words were very Avris like. She was going to say that he was saying things he didn't mean, but had that been the case, he just wouldn't have said it at all. The truth was, she just hadn't expected him to give a care about anyone, or admit he was wrong.

Ivy felt the hands change for a second. It suprised her but not as much as it had obvisously Avignon. She shook her head, this was too much to handle. "I'm not right, Avignon. Something is wrong with me. I think I'm going to age to fast and die within....." She trailed off.

"Shhh.... don't talk like that." she tried to think of a way to comfort the girl. "Ivy, you wanna be a realist? Any of us could die, any day. In fact, if they wanted to, they could kill us right here and now. And that's not all. We're Infectees. We haven't been around that long, so we don't know if we even GET an old age. The side affects could kill us any minute. Another one of those human's bombs could fall on us here and now and strike us dead." She lifted the girl's face up to look at hers. "But we haven't given up yet, have we? We're all fighting to see another day, even these vampires. That's all we can do. Fate will strike us all down one day, and it's no use worrying about when. Don't let death stop you fro living." She smiled at her little joke, hoping it would cheer Ivy up and get her point across at the same time.

"But it won't stop. There has to be something I can do. I don't wanna be old before my time." Ivy shuddered, realizing she was already acting older than her years. Something had to happen. These vampires wanted her for something and she wanted to know what.

Avignon laughed light heartedly. "Most little kids can't wait to grow up!" She ruffled the little girl's green hair. "Besides, this is your time to age. Otherwise it wouldn't happen." She paused to think a seccond. "Do you know about anuals and preannuals?"

"Yeah, it has alot to do with their flowers," she told Ivy. "The first type, the annuals, they are the flowers that come once a year, and only once. After they bloom, they die... But the other kind, the preannuals, the grow, bloom, and then store up for winter and come again in spring. Those flowere are the ones that everyone waits for, what spring stands for. They're those beautiful, fragile things that can survive the harsh cold of winter and come back, again and again. They symbolize hope for many people, something bright comming after a long, dark time.... Do you see?"
